Tics are sudden unwanted and uncontrolled rapid and repeated movements or vocal sounds. There are 2 types of tics, motor tics and vocal tics. Motor tics include eye blinking, facial grimacing, shoulder shrugging, head and shoulder jerking. Vocal tics include repetitive throat clearing, sniffing, grunting and barking.
Tourette syndrome is called when the child has both motor tics and vocal tics for more than 1 year.
